Bucerius Law School doctoral prize: Andreas Humm wins award endowed by Noerr
Bucerius Law School has awarded Andreas Humm the doctoral prize worth €3,000 for his outstanding thesis. The prize is endowed by Noerr every year.
“As a leading European law firm, academic excellence is extremely important to us,” said Kai-Michael Hingst, partner at Noerr’s Hamburg office and honorary professor at Bucerius Law School, during the award ceremony. “By endowing the doctoral prize, we aim to encourage young legal scholars to examine legal issues academically in depth – including and especially in light of social, economic and technical developments.”
Andreas Humm was awarded the doctoral prize 2022 for his thesis entitled Testamentary Freedom and Prevailing Values. A Comparative Legal Study of Objectionable Testamentary Dispositions in Germany, England and South Africa.
The thesis examines, from a comparative law perspective, when a legal system refuses to recognise the last will of a testator for reasons of fundamental values, customs or morals.
- The doctoral prize 2022 was awarded at the graduation ceremony for the class of 2022 at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. Christian Bumke, Head of the Centre for Academic Qualification at Bucerius Law School, gave the laudatory speech for the prize winner. Over 400 guests attended the event, which was also streamed live online. The keynote speech was given by Germany’s Minister of Justice, Marco Buschmann.
