23.09.2024

Effective from January 1, 2025, Prof Dr Jörg Menzer will be the new Vice President of the International Bar Association (IBA). The Noerr partner was elected to this office by a large majority of the membership of the world's largest lawyers' organisation, who met at the annual conference in Mexico City.

Jörg Menzer has been active in the IBA for many years, including as Secretary-General since 2022, and was previously part of the management team as Chair of the Section on Public and Professional Interest (SPPI). The IBA is the foremost international organisation of legal practitioners, bar associations, law societies and law firms. Since its founding in 1947, the IBA has grown to its present membership of more than 80,000 lawyers and law firms (including the leading 300 firms), as well as some 190 bar associations and law societies from more than 170 countries.

"I am very honoured being entrusted to serve as Vice President of the International Bar Association. The IBA is the global voice of a strong and independent legal profession," says Jörg Menzer: "In these times of increasing attacks on the rule of law worldwide, the IBA strongly defends human rights, the independence of lawyers, bar associations and the judiciary as the basis of global stability and the peaceful resolution of conflicts."

Dr Alexander Ritvay, co-managing partner at Noerr, comments: “We are delighted that Jörg Menzer has been elected Vice President of the IBA in recognition of his commitment to the rule of law and the IBA as the global voice of the legal profession. Noerr looks forward to supporting him in this role.”
